A British man, believed to have been murdered last year, was actually a victim of a tragic accident, officials announced this week.
The man, 57, was found slumped over on a blood-soaked bench in Northampton, England, on August 1, 2025, and authorities initially suspected foul play.
An investigation was launched, and three people were arrested in connection with his death, but they were later released as the inquiry progressed.
A coroner has since ruled the man's death a "tragic accident," with investigators concluding that he had fallen into a deep sleep due to his alcohol dependence issues.
The man's weight had caused a knife in his own bag to pierce his body, penetrating all three layers of his clothing and slashing his arm.
As he slept, he bled out, with experts noting that his alcoholism made him vulnerable to blood loss.
Northamptonshire Police dropped the murder inquiry in February, citing a lack of evidence to support the hypothesis that his death was a homicide.
The investigation had found no apparent motive to murder the man, and police confirmed that the evidence did not support the theory of foul play.
