ICE Agent ATTACKED: Suspect Now FACES Justice!

A federal grand jury has indicted Carlos Ivan Mendoza Hernandez, a Salvadoran national residing in the United States without legal authorization, on charges stemming from a dramatic confrontation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The indictment alleges Hernandez intentionally used a vehicle as a weapon against law enforcement, escalating a routine traffic stop into a dangerous situation.

The incident unfolded in Patterson, California, in April when ICE agents, specifically targeting Hernandez, located his vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Agents identified themselves and instructed Hernandez to exit the car, but he refused to comply with repeated requests, leaving the vehicle running.

According to prosecutors, Hernandez then drove forward, striking one agent with his car. He immediately reversed, accelerating rapidly and colliding violently with a law enforcement vehicle. The situation quickly deteriorated as Hernandez allegedly aimed his car directly at two additional agents.

One agent narrowly avoided being hit, jumping clear of the vehicle’s path. Hernandez then swerved across a center divider, entering oncoming traffic during the chaotic sequence of events. Agents, fearing for their safety and the safety of others, discharged their firearms, striking Hernandez multiple times.

Medical aid was immediately provided at the scene, and Hernandez was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities suspect Hernandez has ties to the 18th Street Gang, and he was also a person of interest in a separate murder investigation.

Hernandez’s family has publicly disputed the gang affiliation claims and maintains he was previously cleared of any involvement in the murder case. The details of that investigation remain under scrutiny.

Hernandez now faces significant penalties if convicted on the federal charges. Each count of assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The charge of destruction of government property carries a maximum sentence of 10 years and a $250,000 fine.

The case is proceeding through the legal system, and Hernandez’s defense team has yet to publicly respond to the indictment. The incident highlights the inherent risks faced by law enforcement officers during routine operations and the potential for rapid escalation in encounters with individuals refusing to cooperate.
