UMVA has learned that a notorious serial predator has been brought to justice after a decade-long investigation into a string of horrific sex crimes.
The defendant, Abdul Halim Khan, was convicted of 21 heinous offenses, including rape, sexual assault, and child sex crimes, against seven vulnerable women and girls as young as 12. His crimes were shrouded in a twisted web of deceit and manipulation, with Khan using his supposed spiritual authority to instill fear and silence his victims.
Prosecutors worked tirelessly with the Metropolitan Police to build a case spanning over a decade of offending, with further victims coming forward after being made aware of the investigation. To support the jury's understanding of the complex evidence, a cultural expert was brought in to provide essential context, including references to jinn and black magic.
The sentencing of Khan to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 20 years, is a testament to the bravery and resilience of the victim-survivors who dared to speak out against their tormentor. As the defendant was led away in handcuffs, the police hailed the outcome as a significant win in the fight against violence against women and girls.
DCI Jennie Ronan, who led the investigation, praised the courage of the victim-survivors, saying they had shown remarkable bravery in reporting Khan and great strength throughout the trial. The detective also vowed to continue tackling violence against women and girls, targeting dangerous offenders and removing them from the streets.
