BORDER WAR ERUPTS: Trump Unleashes ICE on Minnesota!

The streets of Minneapolis became a focal point of national attention, fueled by a whirlwind of misinformation regarding federal deployments and shifting command structures. Initial reports, amplified by media outlets, falsely claimed the removal of Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino, painting a picture of a presidential retreat. These claims proved entirely unfounded.

The Department of Homeland Security swiftly and unequivocally stated that Bovino remained in his position. White House confirmations echoed this, emphasizing his continued importance to the President’s team. The reality was a strategic reassignment, returning Bovino to his previous role in California, a move that occurred between January 26th and 27th.

Replacing Bovino was Tom Homan, a figure President Trump personally selected to report directly to him. Homan’s arrival on January 26, 2026, signaled a deliberate shift in operational control, with Trump publicly stating his belief in Homan’s superior experience and resolve.

Law enforcement officers confront protesters in a snowy environment, highlighting tensions during a demonstration.

The genesis of much of the early confusion stemmed from a private conversation between President Trump and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. With no official transcript available, interpretations quickly diverged, creating a breeding ground for speculation. Both leaders described the call as “productive,” but their accounts of the specifics differed dramatically.

Governor Walz’s office asserted that Trump had agreed to consider reducing the federal presence, facilitate independent state investigations, and enhance coordination on immigration enforcement. However, the language used was carefully qualified – “look into,” “speak to,” and “more coordinated” – representing consideration and discussion, not firm commitments.

Crucially, even Walz did not claim a full withdrawal of agents or an end to Operation Metro Surge. The media’s narrative, therefore, stretched beyond the bounds of the official statements, creating a distorted perception of events. The focus shifted to the deployment of the Minnesota National Guard.

Governor Walz framed the Guard’s role as supporting local law enforcement, a message designed to resonate with his base. However, the reality was that National Guard troops were actively securing ICE facilities, freeing up local police resources for other duties. This deployment, requested by Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt, was confirmed on January 24th, 2026.

The Whipple Federal Building, headquarters for ICE operations in the Twin Cities, became a focal point of this security effort. With the Guard providing perimeter security, Minneapolis police and Hennepin County deputies were able to concentrate on maintaining order and responding to protests and unrest.

On January 26th, a protest erupted outside a Maple Grove hotel where Bovino was believed to be staying. Initially peaceful, the demonstration escalated when protesters allegedly began throwing objects and causing property damage, prompting police to declare it an unlawful assembly.

Twenty-six individuals who refused to disperse were arrested, facing charges ranging from gross misdemeanor riot to obstructing legal process. One individual remains at large, under investigation for property damage. Multiple law enforcement agencies collaborated to restore order, including the Minnesota State Patrol and Department of Natural Resources.

Despite the unrest, ICE operations continued unabated, and Operation Metro Surge remained fully active. A potential reduction in federal officers hinges on Minnesota’s ability to maintain public order, allowing for the same level of arrests and deportations with a smaller force.

The entire situation was, in many ways, a predictable consequence of prior policy decisions. The influx of an estimated 10 million undocumented individuals during the previous administration, coupled with Minnesota’s sanctuary state policies, created the conditions that necessitated increased ICE activity.

A critical element overlooked by many was the source of the violence: protesters and rioters, not ICE agents. Had Governor Walz prioritized maintaining order and discouraged interference with ICE operations, much of the unrest could have been avoided.

Ultimately, the outcome represents a clear strategic victory. Arrests are being made, the potential for further rioting is diminishing, and ongoing investigations into potential fraud could lead to indictments of prominent figures. The situation in Minnesota, despite the manufactured narratives, is moving toward resolution.
