ELECTORAL NIGHTMARE: Official ACCUSED of Poisoning Teens!

ELECTORAL NIGHTMARE: Official ACCUSED of Poisoning Teens!

A chilling act unfolded in North Carolina, leaving two teenage girls shaken and a former elections official facing serious accusations. James Edwin Yokeley Jr., 66, has been indicted on felony charges stemming from an incident that occurred in August of last year, forever altering a seemingly innocent summer outing.

The allegations center around a disturbing discovery at a local Dairy Queen. Authorities claim Yokeley, the step-grandfather of one of the girls, deliberately placed pills into the ice cream cones of his 16-year-old step-granddaughter and her 15-year-old friend. The girls, thankfully, noticed something amiss before taking a bite.

Initial tests on the pills revealed a frightening combination: positive results for MDMA, a powerful psychedelic drug, and cocaine. The teens immediately reported their discovery to the Wilmington Police Department, setting in motion a swift investigation that would uncover disturbing evidence.

Surveillance footage reportedly captured Yokeley in the act, allegedly showing him placing the pills directly into the ice cream. This visual evidence became a crucial piece of the puzzle, bolstering the claims made by the frightened teenagers.

The initial charges – contaminating food, felony child abuse, and drug possession – were surprisingly dismissed in December. A more thorough lab analysis determined the substance wasn’t classified as a controlled substance under North Carolina law. However, the case didn’t end there.

Prosecutors, undeterred, presented the evidence to a grand jury, resulting in a new indictment. This time, Yokeley faces two counts of unlawful distribution of food or beverage and one count of intentional child abuse involving serious physical injury. The charges reflect the potential harm inflicted upon the girls.

Adding another layer to this unsettling story, Yokeley held a prominent position at the time of his arrest: chair of the Surry County Board of Elections. He swiftly resigned from the role following the public allegations, citing the need to avoid compromising the integrity of the election process.

In a letter announcing his resignation, Yokeley maintained his innocence, referring to the accusations as “falsely accused circumstances.” He believed stepping down was in the best interest of both state and county election boards. His next court date remains unscheduled as the legal proceedings unfold.

The incident has left the community reeling, grappling with the disturbing possibility that a trusted figure would allegedly engage in such a dangerous and reckless act. The focus now shifts to the courtroom, where the truth will be sought and justice will be determined.
