Beneath the quiet landscape of Anderson, California, a chilling discovery unfolded. A man now faces serious charges after authorities unearthed a meticulously constructed, hidden bunker brimming with illegal weapons and a disturbing amount of ammunition.
Michael Kamfolt, 40, was arrested following an investigation initially focused on a suspected illegal marijuana grow. What began as a search for illicit plants quickly spiraled into something far more unsettling, revealing a level of preparation that raised immediate red flags.
The bunker itself was a feat of clandestine engineering, accessible only through a concealed 100-foot culvert. Inside, officers found a fully equipped space – powered, ventilated, and featuring a concrete floor with drainage – clearly designed for long-term, self-sufficient operation.
Beyond its function for cultivating marijuana, the bunker housed an “alarming cache” of weaponry. Thirteen firearms were seized, including three AR-15 style assault rifles, one with its serial number deliberately erased. Two of the recovered weapons had been reported stolen decades ago, in 1978 and 2016.
The arsenal wasn’t limited to rifles. A sawed-off shotgun, four soft body armor vests, and thirty high-capacity magazines were also recovered, alongside approximately 10,000 rounds of ammunition – some of which were armor-piercing. The sheer volume spoke to a deeply concerning level of planning.
Law enforcement had received an initial tip regarding the property back in December 2025. Armed with a search warrant, they returned this month to uncover not just the cannabis operation, but the elaborate underground fortress and its dangerous contents.
The discovery has sparked a wave of reactions, with some online observers suggesting Kamfolt was simply preparing for a catastrophic event. The reality, however, is a serious breach of the law and a potential threat to the community.
