The catalyst for Trump’s reaction appears to be a 2016 email exchange unearthed in the document release. In the email, Wolff advised Epstein to craft a counter-narrative to a damaging book, *Filthy Rich*, which detailed Epstein’s crimes and subsequent legal battles. Wolff suggested aligning against Trump as a strategic move.
The correspondence revealed a calculated suggestion from Wolff: use opposition to Trump as a shield, offering Epstein “political cover.” A prior email from February 2016 even hinted at Wolff possessing information that could derail Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, positioning himself as a potential “bullet.”
The released documents, however, did not indicate any wrongdoing on Trump’s part, according to a statement from a Justice Department official. The official clarified that the files contained no evidence of criminal activity or inappropriate contact with Epstein’s victims.
