The silence in the Columbus, Ohio home was broken only by a frantic 911 call on December 30th. A friend, unable to reach Spencer and Monique Tepe, had arrived for a routine check, only to stumble upon a scene of unimaginable horror – two lives extinguished, a home saturated with tragedy.
Autopsy reports, recently released, paint a chilling picture of the final moments for the couple. Spencer Tepe, a 37-year-old dentist, and his wife, Monique, 39, each succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, their deaths occurring within seconds to minutes of the brutal attack.
Spencer endured seven gunshot wounds, tearing through his head, neck, torso, and arms. The damage was catastrophic, vital organs – his brain and lungs – irreparably compromised, unleashing a torrent of internal bleeding that swiftly claimed his life.
Monique’s injuries were equally devastating. Nine bullets ripped through her face, chest, torso, and arms, mirroring the speed and finality of her husband’s demise. The coroner’s findings confirmed a rapid loss of life for both victims.
Toxicology reports revealed no presence of alcohol or illicit drugs in either Spencer or Monique’s systems. However, investigators discovered medications in Monique’s system, including an antidepressant and antihistamines, offering a glimpse into her personal struggles.
The investigation quickly focused on Monique’s ex-husband, Michael McKee. Evidence began to mount, linking a vehicle to the Tepes’ neighborhood around the time of the murders – a vehicle that then fled the scene and was traced back to Rockford, Illinois, and ultimately, to McKee himself.
McKee was apprehended in Illinois on January 10th and extradited to Ohio, where he now faces four charges of premeditated aggravated murder, each carrying firearm specifications, alongside a charge of aggravated burglary. He has pleaded not guilty.
