Former President Trump has publicly backed Louisiana state Senator Blake Miguez, a shift in focus after Miguez recently changed his political ambitions. He’s now vying for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, abandoning a previous run for the Senate.
The endorsement arrived via a direct statement on the former president’s social media platform, proclaiming Miguez a “MAGA Warrior” and championing his potential to represent Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District. Trump asserted his “Complete and Total Endorsement,” predicting Miguez would be a steadfast representative.
Miguez responded with gratitude, echoing the “America First” sentiment and praising Trump as the nation’s greatest president. He pledged to deliver for both Louisiana’s 5th district and the country as a whole, framing his candidacy as a continuation of Trump’s agenda.
This move follows a previous, notably blunt, Senate campaign launch where Miguez openly criticized incumbent Senator Bill Cassidy. His initial campaign video didn’t mince words, directly attacking Cassidy’s performance.
Cassidy had previously drawn the ire of Trump supporters by voting to convict during the former president’s impeachment proceedings in 2021. However, that vote occurred after Trump had already left office, rendering it largely symbolic.
Trump has also recently signaled support for Representative Julia Letlow, encouraging her to enter the Senate race. He highlighted his own strong performance in Louisiana, claiming multiple victories within the state.
Letlow, currently representing Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District, subsequently announced her Senate bid, spurred by the former president’s enthusiastic encouragement. This created an open seat in the House, which Miguez is now pursuing.
Miguez framed his shift to the House race as a continuation of his original commitment to stand with Trump and prioritize an “America First” agenda. He believes this new path allows him to best serve Louisiana families and advance the goals of the former president.
