The season opener in Riyadh witnessed Tabuena consistently delivering, carding three consecutive rounds of one-under par 71. He then elevated his game on Sunday, unleashing a three-under 69 to cap off his debut performance with the Dustin Johnson-led 4Aces GC team.
His total score of six-under 282 placed him 18 strokes behind the unexpected champion, Elvis Smylie of Ripper GC. Smylie’s stunning victory, sealed with a final-round 64, came at the expense of heavily favored Jon Rahm of Legion XIII, who finished just one stroke behind.
Tabuena shared his 48th to 50th place ranking with golfing luminaries Bubba Watson, a two-time Masters champion, and England’s Sam Horsfield. The competition proved fierce, showcasing the highest caliber of play.
Despite a momentary setback on the 16th hole during the final round, Tabuena demonstrated remarkable resilience. He swiftly recovered, stringing together five birdies across a ten-hole stretch, a testament to his unwavering character and world-class golfing ability.
