DEADLY DRUG ERROR: Blood Pressure Pills Recalled NOW!

DEADLY DRUG ERROR: Blood Pressure Pills Recalled NOW!

A silent danger is unfolding across Canada, triggered by a critical medication error. Thousands of bottles of MAR-Amlodipine, a vital drug for managing high blood pressure and chest pain, have been recalled due to a potentially life-threatening mix-up.

The error stems from a packaging issue at Marcan Pharmaceuticals Inc., where some bottles labelled as MAR-Amlodipine may actually contain midodrine – a medication used to *raise* blood pressure. This isn’t a simple substitution; it’s a reversal of treatment that could have devastating consequences.

Imagine relying on medication to keep your blood pressure in check, only to unknowingly receive a drug that sends it soaring. Health officials warn that taking midodrine instead of amlodipine can lead to dangerously high blood pressure, debilitating dizziness, fainting spells, a dangerously slowed heartbeat, and even critical organ damage.

MAR-amlodipine 2.5 mg tablets, left, and Midodrine 2.5 mg.

The risk isn’t limited to adults. Children are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of taking the incorrect medication, making this recall a matter of urgent concern for families nationwide.

Identifying the incorrect medication requires a close visual inspection. Genuine MAR-Amlodipine tablets are eight-sided, ranging in color from white to off-white, and clearly marked with the numbers “210” and “5” on one side.

In contrast, the mispackaged midodrine tablets are round and bear the inscription “M2.” This seemingly small difference is crucial – it’s the key to protecting yourself and your loved ones from a serious health crisis.

The recall specifically affects MAR-Amlodipine 5 mg tablets with DIN 02371715, from lots 2472021 and 2472021A, and an expiry date of July 2027. If your medication matches this description, immediate action is required.

Do not take any pills from the affected bottles. Return them to your pharmacy immediately for a replacement. Your health, and potentially your life, depends on it.

If you have already taken medication from a suspect bottle, be vigilant. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience dizziness, unusually high blood pressure, or a significantly slowed heartbeat.

Don’t hesitate to call 911 if you experience any alarming symptoms, such as sudden chest pain, a severe headache, difficulty speaking, or any loss of movement or sensation. Every second counts when facing a medical emergency.

Healthcare professionals are also being urged to meticulously inspect all MAR-Amlodipine bottles before dispensing them to patients, and to report any discrepancies immediately. This widespread vigilance is essential to contain the impact of this critical error.
