A man briefly detained in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has been released, leaving investigators still searching for answers in the eleventh day of the case.
The release came just hours after authorities released unsettling footage from a doorbell camera at Guthrie’s mother’s home, showing a masked and armed individual on the front porch the morning she vanished.
The man, identified only as Carlos, a delivery driver, recounted a terrifying experience to reporters. He and his wife pulled over when they noticed police following them, only to be told he was a suspect in a kidnapping.
“They told me I was being detained for kidnapping. I asked them, ‘Kidnapping of who?’” Carlos stated, explaining he believed he may have delivered a package to the residence but vehemently denied any involvement in a crime.
He described the ordeal as deeply frightening, confessing he felt as though he himself was being kidnapped. After several hours, authorities released him without explanation.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the completion of a search of a property in Rio Rico, Arizona, but offered no further details regarding the findings or Carlos’s connection to the investigation.
The FBI released the recovered doorbell camera footage, revealing a deliberate attempt to tamper with the device. FBI Director Kash Patel explained the video was salvaged from residual data within backend systems.
The black-and-white images depict an armed individual approaching the home, raising serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding Guthrie’s disappearance. The footage is a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Savannah Guthrie, whose mother is missing, shared the FBI images publicly, accompanied by a desperate plea: “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”
The family has previously indicated a willingness to meet ransom demands, following reports of letters requesting millions of dollars in cryptocurrency sent to a specific Bitcoin address, with multiple deadlines having passed.
The investigation continues, fueled by the newly released footage and the hope of securing Nancy Guthrie’s safe return, while authorities remain tight-lipped about specific leads and potential suspects.
