TORONTO'S FUNNIEST PODCASTS REVEALED: You Won't Believe #3!

TORONTO'S FUNNIEST PODCASTS REVEALED: You Won't Believe #3!

A recent poll of Toronto Sun readers revealed a clear favorite in the world of comedy podcasts: The Joe Rogan Experience. Launched in 2009, Rogan’s show has ascended to become the most-listened-to podcast globally, dominating charts through 2024 and into 2025 according to streaming data.

Joe Rogan’s journey to podcasting fame is a fascinating one. He initially captivated audiences as an actor and comedian, appearing on shows like *Newsradio*, before taking on the adrenaline-fueled role of host for *Fear Factor*. He then transitioned into the world of mixed martial arts as a UFC interviewer and color commentator, skills he now expertly applies to long-form conversations with a diverse range of guests.

Rogan attributes the podcast’s enduring appeal to its remarkably simple and authentic approach. He emphasizes the show’s minimal staff – essentially himself, his iPhone, and producer Jamie Vernon – and the freedom he’s granted to pursue genuine curiosity. This independence, even under the umbrella of a major corporation like Spotify, is key to its success.

“I’m just going after what I’m curious about,” Rogan explained on his show. “That’s all I’m doing, approaching and engaging with things that I’m curious about.” This unfiltered exploration resonates with listeners seeking genuine connection and thought-provoking discussions.

Coming in at number two is *Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend*. The veteran comedian, known for his years on late-night television and his writing for *The Simpsons*, launched the podcast in 2018 after concluding his run on TBS. The show thrives on the dynamic between O’Brien, his former assistant Sona Movsesian, and producer Matt Gourley, creating a uniquely playful atmosphere.

*Club Random with Bill Maher* secured the third spot. The 70-year-old comedian, famous for his HBO show *Real Time*, brings a distinctly relaxed vibe to his weekly podcast, which began in 2022. Maher’s casual approach extends to offering guests a drink – and sometimes more – from the cocktail bar situated within his recording space.

Fourth on the list is *The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart*. The former host of *The Daily Show* continues his tradition of insightful political commentary in this 2024 podcast launch. Stewart’s signature wit remains firmly intact as he conducts in-depth interviews with journalists, politicians, and authors.

Rounding out the top five is *The Sarah Silverman Podcast*. Silverman, a comedian and actress known for tackling taboo subjects, launched her podcast in 2020. The show blends humor and vulnerability, offering candid conversations and often featuring listener voicemails alongside guest appearances.

Silverman’s willingness to address controversial topics and her conversational style have resonated with audiences seeking a refreshingly honest and relatable voice in the podcasting landscape.
