Magalhaes had entered a plea deal, offering full cooperation with prosecutors and testimony against Brendan Banfield in exchange for a sentence of time served. The case revolved around the brutal double murder of Joseph Ryan and Christine Banfield in February 2023, a crime fueled by a clandestine affair. Magalhaes claimed her confession and guilty plea weren’t simply about securing a lighter sentence, but a genuine attempt to “do good.” She described a horrific scene: she fired a fatal shot into Ryan as Brendan Banfield viciously attacked his wife, Christine, with a knife in their bedroom.
She had initially pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter in Ryan’s death, contingent on her continued cooperation in the prosecution of Brendan Banfield. Banfield was recently convicted by a jury of aggravated murder in both deaths, a verdict heavily influenced by Magalhaes’s testimony.
The affair between Magalhaes and Banfield had blossomed in the months leading up to the murders and, shockingly, continued even afterward.
