A new spotlight shines on the Philippines’ rising artistic talent at ALT Art 2026, currently captivating audiences until February 15th. This year’s exhibition isn’t just a display of established names; it’s a deliberate unveiling of the future, with a dedicated space for emerging artists.
Dubbed the “Discoveries Section,” this curated showcase provides a crucial platform for nine young artists, each selected by the galleries representing them. It’s a vote of confidence, a recognition of exceptional skill and vision in craft, technique, and artistic expression.
For Allyza Tresvalles, a 26-year-old artist from Lucban, Quezon, ALT Art 2026 represents a pivotal moment – her first solo exhibition and debut at a major art fair. She expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging the challenges faced by artists from the provinces in gaining national recognition.
Tresvalles’ work is a compelling fusion of tradition and spirituality, seamlessly blending Filipino weaving, pottery, and metalwork with pre-colonial iconography. Her piece, “Sungkaan,” is particularly poignant, using the familiar Filipino board game as a metaphor for the often-unseen and undervalued labor of weavers in her community.
The Discoveries Section also features the work of JC Mariategue, Jomari T’Leon, Joar Songcuya, Eric Bico, Gelo Cinco, Joanolasco, Rhaz Oriente, and Marco Ortiga, adding to the impressive roster of over 300 artists featured throughout ALT Art 2026.
Beyond the emerging talent, established artists are also drawing significant attention. Lindsey James “Lindslee” Lee’s sculpture, “Weight of the Day,” resonates with a raw, relatable honesty. It depicts a father, weary from work, finding solace in a simple moment with a bottle of beer, seated on a ubiquitous monoblock chair.
Now in its fourth iteration, ALT Art 2026 is a vibrant testament to the flourishing art scene in the Philippines, offering a space for dialogue, discovery, and appreciation of diverse artistic voices. The exhibition is being held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
The event is a powerful demonstration of support for the arts, and a celebration of the creativity and dedication of Filipino artists, both established and on the rise.
