A Queen Street West business in Toronto has been targeted by gunfire for the second time in just over a month, raising serious questions for investigators.
The latest incident occurred Monday afternoon, with police responding to reports of shots fired near Queen and Portland Streets shortly after 4:45 p.m. Evidence confirmed a shooting had taken place, and while no one was injured, a commercial building sustained damage – identified by reports as the Asian fusion restaurant, Miss Ivy.
Police are actively investigating whether this latest attack is connected to a similar shooting that took place on February 8th at the same location. Investigators believe the incidents were targeted, and the Gun and Gang Task Force is leading the ongoing probe.
Suspects were seen fleeing the scene in a dark-coloured vehicle, leaving authorities to piece together the events and motives behind these repeated attacks.
In Hamilton, a massage therapist has been arrested and charged with sexual assault, prompting concerns about potential additional victims. Abdulrahman Al Kaysee, 33, was taken into custody on February 11th.
Police are urging anyone with information related to this case to come forward, hoping to uncover the full extent of the alleged offenses and identify any other individuals who may have been harmed.
Meanwhile, a joint operation in Brampton led to significant drug and firearm charges against two individuals. Search warrants were executed at locations on Queen Street East and Highway 50, as well as The Gore Road and Countryside Drive.
The searches yielded a loaded Glock 26 handgun with an extended magazine, a substantial quantity of cocaine, and fentanyl intended for trafficking. Jesse Dawson, 35, of Toronto, faces multiple firearm and drug-related charges, along with a charge related to possessing proceeds of crime exceeding $5,000.
Jasdeep Tatla, 33, of Brampton, has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and fentanyl. Authorities are seeking any information that could assist with the investigation.
Toronto police are also investigating a firearm discharge that occurred Sunday morning near Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue West. A 27-year-old man, Shane Harty, was arrested after allegedly firing a gun during a dispute.
Officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun at the time of the arrest, and Harty is now facing five firearm-related charges. The Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
