EUROPE'S CLIMATE FANTASY EXPLODES: US Energy Chief DECLARES WAR!

EUROPE'S CLIMATE FANTASY EXPLODES: US Energy Chief DECLARES WAR!

A stark warning reverberated through the halls of the International Energy Agency in Paris as the US Energy Secretary delivered a blistering critique of current “net zero” policies. Secretary Wright didn’t mince words, accusing the organization of pursuing ambitions divorced from practical realities and forecasting economic ruin for Europe if the green agenda isn’t reevaluated.

The Secretary’s forceful address followed similar messages from Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio, both cautioning European leaders about the dangers of their current course. Wright asserted the IEA had fundamentally lost its way, publishing energy scenarios for five years that bore no connection to the actual demands of the world.

Founded in the wake of the 1974 oil crisis to ensure energy security, the IEA has undergone a significant shift, increasingly prioritizing green energy and climate policy. Wright suggested this transformation has been detrimental, leading to unrealistic expectations and ultimately, economic vulnerability.

He painted a grim picture for European industrial powers, stating that continuing down the current path would effectively render them “former industrial powers.” While acknowledging the choice was theirs, he strongly implied it was a self-destructive one, jeopardizing their economic future.

Wright argued that prevailing energy policies are fundamentally disconnected from the needs of citizens, the limitations of power grids, and the essential requirements of national security. He dismissed the widely cited “Net Zero by 2050” goal as utterly unattainable.

The pursuit of this goal, he claimed, has already resulted in a staggering $10 trillion expenditure globally, yielding a mere 2.6% increase in wind, solar, and battery-powered energy on the transmission grid. This massive investment, he argued, has not strengthened nations but has instead burdened them financially.

The consequences are already visible, Wright pointed out, with states adopting strict renewable portfolio standards experiencing electricity prices 50% higher than those that haven’t. He emphasized the need to avoid policies that drive industries out of Europe and impoverish citizens.

Wright expressed cautious optimism regarding recent shifts in the IEA’s policy scenarios, crediting Director Fatih Birol with taking a “step in the right direction.” He indicated this change followed years of the organization operating outside the bounds of practicality.

The Secretary firmly believes that climate considerations are the domain of politicians, not energy policymakers. He urged a return to fundamental principles: prioritizing the needs of “humans – and math,” and focusing on reliably and affordably energizing the world, the original mission of the IEA.

He underscored the importance of addressing critical issues like energy access for the world’s most vulnerable populations, noting that millions still lack access to clean cooking fuel, a problem exacerbated by costly and ineffective green policies.
