AXE ATTACK AT MOSQUE: City on Edge!

AXE ATTACK AT MOSQUE: City on Edge!

A chilling scene unfolded at Manchester Central Mosque during evening prayers as a man was arrested for allegedly entering the building carrying multiple weapons. The incident, occurring during the holy month of Ramadan, has sparked concern and a swift response from authorities.

Initial reports detail how mosque volunteers first noticed a man, wearing a high-visibility jacket and carrying a large bag, accompanied by another individual. The bag immediately raised alarm, as it contained an axe which was placed inside the main hall.

Quick thinking and remarkable composure from the mosque’s volunteers prevented a potential escalation. They engaged the suspect in conversation, maintaining a calm atmosphere while discreetly escorting him to a separate room.

It was in this room that the full extent of the threat became clear: the man was found to be carrying not only the axe, but also a hammer and a knife. Police were immediately called and swiftly made an arrest.

The second individual, described as a Black male, left the mosque shortly before police arrived and remains at large. Authorities are actively working to locate and apprehend this person.

Superintendent Simon Nasim of Greater Manchester Police confirmed that officers responded to reports of suspicious activity and the presence of an offensive weapon during worship. He emphasized that no threats were made and, thankfully, no one was injured.

Local MP Afzal Khan expressed deep concern over the incident, relieved that the community was safe and that one suspect was in custody. He acknowledged the gravity of the situation and the potential for harm.

Adding to the unsettling details, investigators discovered the suspect was carrying materials related to World War Two, including newspaper cuttings. The significance of these items is currently under investigation.

Police have noted the suspect’s remarkably calm demeanor and confirmed he did not appear to be under the influence of any substances. He had also been observed visiting the mosque on previous occasions.

Authorities are now appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist their investigation. An increased police presence is expected in the area as inquiries continue, aiming to reassure the community and ensure their safety.

The mosque released a statement describing the event as a “serious security incident” and praising the swift actions of its volunteers in containing the situation and protecting worshippers.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and the importance of community cooperation in safeguarding places of worship and ensuring the peace of mind for all.
