TEEN ARSON TERROR: 25 Charges Filed!

The pre-dawn darkness of February 19th was shattered in Oshawa when police responded to a disturbing call: an armed individual at Harley G’s clothing store. The incident, unfolding around 4:10 a.m., quickly escalated into a brazen attempt at arson, leaving a trail of destruction and a community on edge.

Investigators discovered a black Honda had delivered two sixteen-year-old males to the scene. While one suspect wielded a hammer, smashing the storefront’s glass entrance, the other moved to deploy a dangerous incendiary device, threatening to engulf the business in flames.

The swift response of the Durham Regional Police led to the apprehension of both suspects shortly after the attempted arson. Officers located and detained them near the intersection of King St. East and Ritson Rd., preventing further potential harm.

The Scugog teenager now faces a staggering ten charges, including arson, mischief, and multiple counts of failing to comply with both release and sentence orders. He is also accused of possessing stolen property exceeding $5,000 and obstructing police, all while disguised with intent.

His accomplice, a sixteen-year-old from Toronto, is similarly burdened with nine charges. These include arson, possession of stolen property, disguise with intent, and multiple violations related to existing court orders and possession of incendiary material.

The gravity of the situation underscores a pattern of disregard for the law exhibited by these young individuals. The collective 25 charges paint a picture of escalating offenses and a blatant disregard for public safety and the well-being of the community.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding this incident, or similar occurrences, to come forward. Details can be provided to the Durham Regional Police Service, or anonymously through Durham Regional Crime Stoppers, aiding in the ongoing investigation and pursuit of justice.
