Former Arsenal star Anders Limpar believes the Gunners’ midfield is already exceptionally well-equipped, questioning the need to pursue a player like Sandro Tonali. Despite recent links suggesting Arsenal were offered the Italian international, Limpar argues the current squad depth is more than sufficient to challenge on all fronts.
Mikel Arteta has established a formidable partnership between Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi, a duo consistently delivering strong performances. Their success has solidified their positions as first-choice, creating a high standard for any potential new arrival to meet.
Beyond the starting eleven, Limpar highlighted the often-underappreciated Christian Norgaard as a crucial asset. He described Norgaard as “unbelievable,” a reliable and capable backup who could excel with consistent playing time.
Limpar directly questioned Tonali’s potential impact, stating he isn’t convinced the player would offer a significant upgrade. He posited that Tonali would likely be fifth in the pecking order, a position that wouldn’t guarantee him regular minutes.
“Should they splash the cash for a player like Tonali?” Limpar asked, suggesting the funds might be better allocated elsewhere. He emphasized the existing quality within the squad, pointing to a roster of five “world class” midfielders.
The former Gunner believes Arsenal’s focus should remain on strengthening other areas of the pitch. With a strong core already in place, adding another midfielder of Tonali’s caliber wouldn’t necessarily translate to a stronger team.
Limpar’s assessment suggests a belief in the current squad’s potential, and a cautious approach to further investment in a position already brimming with talent. He clearly values the depth and reliability provided by players like Norgaard.
