A sophisticated crime ring has been terrorizing communities across Whitby, leaving a trail of violated homes and shattered security. Durham police launched Project Sonoma after a surge in break-ins, uncovering a pattern of calculated attacks targeting valuable possessions.
The group’s method was chillingly precise: rear sliding-glass doors were smashed, granting access to the most private sanctuary of a home – the master bedroom. Once inside, they focused on high-value items, swiftly and efficiently stripping homes of their treasures.
Four individuals are currently wanted in connection with at least 20 break-and-enters. Ian Dulceanu, 25, of Toronto, Madalin-Florin Moldoveanu, 31, of Toronto, Ionel Dumitru, 52, of Toronto, and Victor Duduianu, 55, of Oshawa, are all facing serious charges.
The scope of their alleged crimes extends far beyond Durham Region. Dulceanu, Moldoveanu, and Duduianu are also facing a combined total of over 60 charges in Halton and Toronto, while Dumitru and Duduianu are implicated in at least six offences in York Region – all mirroring the same brazen tactics.
In a separate incident, Toronto police are urgently seeking a man responsible for a disturbing assault near McCowan Road and Highway 401. The suspect, wielding a knife, viciously attacked a security booth, stabbing at the desk while a terrified security guard escaped unharmed.
The suspect is described as having short grey/blonde hair and was last seen wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans. The attack, occurring in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon, has left authorities and residents shaken.
Just days earlier, a taxi driver in the Front Street West and University Avenue area became the victim of a violent robbery. A passenger, after being dropped off, suddenly brandished a knife, demanding money and inflicting a cut on the driver before fleeing the scene.
The victim received medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries, but the incident underscores a growing concern for the safety of those providing essential services. The suspect is described as approximately 5-foot-8 with a medium build, wearing a dark jacket, cream-coloured headphones, and carrying a black backpack.
Meanwhile, York Regional Police are piecing together the events of a harrowing collision in Richmond Hill. A two-vehicle crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle at Highway 7 and Bayview Avenue has left a motorcycle driver with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene with minor injuries, but investigators are desperately seeking witnesses and any available dash-cam footage to reconstruct the events leading up to the devastating crash. The investigation is ongoing, and every piece of evidence is crucial.
Anyone with information regarding any of these incidents is urged to contact the relevant authorities. Details can be provided anonymously, offering a vital opportunity to help bring these individuals to justice and restore a sense of safety to the affected communities.
