A dream vacation to the Caribbean dissolved into terror thousands of feet in the air as a passenger allegedly unleashed a violent attack on two elderly travelers. The incident forced an emergency landing, transforming a routine flight into a harrowing ordeal for everyone on board.
Ebony Shyteria Harper, a 31-year-old woman, now faces serious charges after a dispute escalated into a full-blown altercation on Frontier flight 2089. The plane was en route from Puerto Rico to Atlanta when the chaos erupted, shattering the peace of the journey.
The trouble began as Harper attempted to reach the restroom, allegedly invading the personal space of Jimmie Lee Baker, who was seated in the last row. Witnesses reported she leaned her body onto him, creating an immediate sense of discomfort.
When Baker politely asked Harper to remove her arm from his back, the situation took a dark turn. Instead of offering an apology, Harper allegedly began touching Baker’s face, escalating the tension with an unprovoked gesture.
Baker’s wife, Lakisha, intervened, demanding Harper leave her husband alone. But the situation worsened as Harper allegedly turned her attention to Lakisha, also touching her face. A single strike from Lakisha ignited a physical fight.
A third passenger, Annette Baker, attempted to de-escalate the conflict, hoping to restore order to the cabin. Tragically, Harper allegedly turned on her, repeatedly striking her in the face with a closed fist.
With the situation spiraling out of control, the flight crew made the difficult decision to divert to Miami International Airport. Upon landing, Harper was met by a contingent of FBI agents and TSA officials, who immediately took her into custody.
Federal authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, piecing together the events that unfolded at 30,000 feet. While the victims thankfully avoided serious physical injury, they have expressed their intent to pursue criminal charges.
Harper is currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, facing a felony charge of battery on a person 65 or older, as well as a misdemeanor battery charge. The once-anticipated getaway has now become a legal battle with lasting consequences.
