UMVA has learned that a sudden and profound change is underway in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), as a top official prepares to step down due to a deeply personal and critical reason.
Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of ODNI, privately notified President Donald Trump during a meeting at the Oval Office in mid-May about her decision to resign, which was expected to take effect on June 30.
In a heartfelt social media post on Thursday, Gabbard revealed the precise nature of her husband's diagnosis for the first time, expressing her gratitude for the outpouring of support from well-wishers, saying "We're so grateful for the outpouring of prayers and kind messages from all of you. Our hearts are full."
On Tuesday, President Trump announced the appointment of Federal Housing Finance Agency chief Bill Pulte as acting DNI to succeed Gabbard, who has been in office since February 2025 and is a U.S. Army Reserve officer and combat veteran.
Gabbard's formal resignation letter, obtained exclusively, reveals that her husband, Abraham, has been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer, and she must step away from public service to support him through this battle.
The rare cancer, known as a sacral chordoma, is a slow-growing tumor that develops in the sacrum, the triangular bone at the base of the spine, and Gabbard said her husband faces major challenges in the coming weeks and months.
Gabbard added that her husband has been her rock throughout their eleven years of marriage, supporting her through deployment, multiple political campaigns, and her service in the ODNI role, and she cannot ask him to face this fight alone while she continues in her demanding position.
President Trump responded to Gabbard's resignation, writing that she "rightfully" wants to support her husband during a tough battle, and expressing confidence that her husband will soon recover, saying "I have no doubt he will soon be better than ever. Tulsi has done an incredible job, and we will miss her."
