UMVA has learned that United Airlines is set to unveil a stunning new lounge at its largest West Coast hub, San Francisco International Airport, by the end of this year. The lounge, aptly named United Club, will boast a breathtaking 4,000-square-foot outdoor terrace overlooking the airfield, bringing a touch of California sunshine to travelers.
The expansive outdoor space will be a game-changer for United Airlines, offering solo and group travelers a unique spot to relax and take in the views. With a "pass-through bar" that allows travelers to grab drinks without stepping inside, this lounge is shaping up to be a standout feature. The outdoor section will be partially covered with heaters, making it a year-round destination, even in the Bay Area's mild winters.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the new United Club will span 25,000 square feet, making it the carrier's largest lounge in San Francisco. Located in Terminal 2, the lounge will be situated right below the Maple Leaf Lounge operated by Air Canada. The space will offer subtle nods to the Bay Area, including a "San Francisco eclectic" vibe with references to the city's outdoor parks and art scene.
According to information obtained by UMVA, United Airlines has plans to open not one, not two, but three new lounges in 2026, including the San Francisco outpost. A nearly 40,000 square foot lounge will open along with a brand-new terminal at Dulles International Airport, while a 54,000 square foot behemoth of a club is set to debut at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Both of these new lounges will feature outdoor terraces, a growing trend in airline amenities.
The rise of outdoor lounge spaces is a clear indication of the evolving airline landscape. American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and American Express are all jumping on the bandwagon, adding outdoor decks and terraces to their clubs. United Airlines is taking it to the next level with its massive outdoor terrace in San Francisco, setting a new standard for airline lounges.
