US Implements Pregnancy Testing Requirement for Female Travelers from Abroad

The United States Supreme Court has struck down President Trump's executive order on birthright citizenship in a 5-4 decision, dealing a significant blow to the administration's immigration policies.

Chief Justice Roberts wrote the majority opinion, which held that children born in the United States to parents who are unlawfully or temporarily present are "subject to the jurisdiction" of the United States and are citizens at birth under the Fourteenth Amendment's Citizenship Clause.

The ruling was joined by Justices Amy Coney Barrett, Kagan, Sotomayor, and Jackson, while Conservative Supreme Court Justices Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented strongly, arguing that the ruling is a threat to the country's "civilization."

Following the ruling, a proposal has been put forward to establish a new visa protocol, known as the "Roberts Requirement," which would require female visa applicants to present a valid negative pregnancy test taken no longer than 10 days prior to travel to the United States.

The requirement would be modeled after the COVID-19 test protocol, where travelers must present a negative test result prior to entry. Failure to present a negative pregnancy test would disqualify the traveler.

Several countries already have similar regulations in place, including the United States and Hong Kong, which have documented policies that can result in denial of entry or visas for pregnant women in specific circumstances.

The proposal has been met with support from some quarters, who argue that it is a lawful regulation that does not require congressional approval.
