The water level at Angat Dam has seen a significant increase following a series of rains caused by a low-pressure area and other weather systems. The dam's water level rose by 3.48 meters on Thursday, reaching 154.33 meters as of 8:00 a.m. this morning.
This increase, however, still leaves the dam below its critical operating level of 160 meters. Despite the recent rise, the dam remains at a lower level than it was on July 4, based on historical data.
The moderate rains over the past 24 hours, brought by the low-pressure area, are attributed to the over 3-meter increase in Angat Dam's water level. Light rains have also been recorded over the dam's watershed since July 23, which has influenced soil moisture and the hydrological response of the watershed.
A continuation of the upward trend in Angat Dam's water level is possible if rains from localized thunderstorms fall within the watershed. PAGASA has cautioned the public against possible flooding and landslides during severe thunderstorms, which may affect the Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region within the next 24 hours.
Localized thunderstorms are also expected to affect the rest of the country during the same period. Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions against potential flooding and landslides.
