A U.S. Park Police officer is recovering after a brazen shooting in Southeast Washington, D.C. Monday night, an attack that has led to the arrest of two individuals. The incident unfolded as the officer was investigating another matter, operating from an unmarked vehicle.
Around 7:30 p.m., two armed men reportedly approached the officer’s car and opened fire, striking him in the upper body. Despite the severity of the attack, the officer demonstrated remarkable composure, managing to drive himself away from the scene and request medical assistance.
USPP’s aviation unit swiftly transported the injured officer to a local hospital. Fortunately, his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and he has since been released, a testament to both his resilience and the quality of care received.
Police moved quickly to apprehend those responsible. Darren Foster, 21, was taken into custody Monday night, shortly after the shooting occurred. The following day, Asheile Foster, 22, was also arrested in connection with the incident.
Both Darren and Asheile Foster now face serious charges: assault on a federal police officer with a firearm. Investigators believe the suspects were aware the individual inside the Tesla was a law enforcement officer, raising questions about a potential targeted attack.
A search warrant led authorities to raid a nearby home Tuesday afternoon, executing the warrant with a significant police presence, including officers with weapons drawn and a K-9 unit. The search is part of an ongoing effort to uncover the motive behind the shooting and gather further evidence.
The investigation is being spearheaded by detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s NIBIN Investigations Unit, a collaborative effort that includes agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and USPP detectives. Every resource is being utilized to ensure a thorough and just resolution to this case.
