TRUMP'S WAR: Paxton vs. Cornyn – The Establishment CRUMBLES!

TRUMP'S WAR: Paxton vs. Cornyn – The Establishment CRUMBLES!

The Texas Republican Senate primary runoff is reaching a critical juncture, with Attorney General Ken Paxton and incumbent Senator John Cornyn vying for a coveted endorsement from former President Trump. The race, headed for a May 26th showdown, has become a proxy battle between the MAGA movement and the Republican establishment.

Paxton has emerged as the clear favorite among Trump’s base, fueled by strong support demonstrated at recent events. Conversely, Cornyn, perceived as a more traditional Republican, is reportedly hoping for a Trump endorsement to bolster his chances, recognizing the uphill battle he faces.

The initial primary results revealed a significant level of dissatisfaction with Cornyn, as over 50% of GOP voters cast their ballots for other candidates. Representative Wesley Hunt garnered 13.5% of the vote, further illustrating the desire for an alternative to the incumbent.

Adding to Cornyn’s challenges, the National Republican Senatorial Committee appears to be distancing itself, offering limited financial support as Trump deliberates. This lack of backing signals a potential acceptance within Washington of a likely matchup between Paxton and a Democratic opponent in the general election.

Trump’s decision is complicated by ongoing negotiations surrounding the SAVE Act, a policy win he is actively seeking. He is reportedly “being patient” and attempting to leverage the endorsement to secure progress on this legislative priority.

Recent interactions between Trump and Paxton suggest a positive rapport. A meeting last week reportedly covered the runoff election, and Trump has privately acknowledged the strong support Paxton enjoys among his base.

Despite previous calls for one candidate to withdraw, Paxton has firmly stated he will remain in the race regardless of Trump’s decision. He believes Cornyn has not adequately represented the interests of Texans and feels a duty to continue fighting for the state.

The situation remains fluid, with Trump potentially choosing not to endorse either candidate or delaying his decision until after the SAVE Act debate concludes. For now, the Texas Senate race hangs in the balance, awaiting the pivotal influence of a single endorsement.
