A fiery incident on the EDSA-Ortigas flyover has triggered a demand for substantial repairs from LS8 Tourist Transport Corp. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has formally requested the company cover all costs associated with restoring the structure after a bus fire caused significant damage.
The blaze, which erupted on April 24th and burned for a full hour, inflicted intense heat upon the flyover’s critical components. This necessitated an immediate, temporary closure of a section of the vital thoroughfare, disrupting traffic flow and raising serious safety concerns.
According to the DPWH’s official demand letter, records clearly identify the involved vehicle as belonging to, being operated by, or under the control of LS8 Tourist Transport. Consequently, the corporation bears full legal responsibility for the resulting damages.
The financial obligation extends beyond simple repair work. LS8 Tourist Transport is expected to fund the complete rehabilitation of the flyover, including necessary engineering interventions and any unforeseen costs revealed during a detailed structural evaluation.
To facilitate the assessment and subsequent repairs, the affected portion of EDSA-Ortigas was closed to traffic for an entire weekend. Crews worked diligently to clear debris, replace damaged safety features, and conduct crucial load testing to ensure the flyover’s structural integrity.
Attempts to obtain a statement from LS8 Tourist Transport regarding the DPWH’s demand were unsuccessful. The company did not respond to inquiries before the deadline, leaving the financial implications of the incident unresolved.
