Napoleon L. Nazareno, a pivotal figure in Philippine telecommunications, has passed away at the age of 77. His death, announced by his family on Tuesday, followed a sudden and unexpected intracranial hemorrhage.
Known affectionately as “Polly,” Nazareno dedicated decades to transforming the landscape of communication within the Philippines. He wasn’t merely an executive; he was a visionary who believed in the power of technology to connect and uplift communities.
His daughter, Apple Nazareno, shared a heartfelt tribute, describing him as a man of quiet strength, kindness, and remarkable foresight. He championed innovation and excellence, consistently striving to broaden access to technology for all Filipinos.
Nazareno’s leadership was characterized by wisdom and unwavering integrity. He guided PLDT Inc. and Smart Communications, Inc. with a clear purpose, leaving an indelible mark on both the industry and the lives of those he touched.
He retired from his roles as president and chief executive officer of PLDT and Smart in 2015, concluding a distinguished career. His legacy, however, extends far beyond his tenure, shaping the future of Philippine connectivity.
Family will receive visitors to pay their respects at Santuario de San Antonio Parish in Forbes Park, Makati, from March 25th to 27th, where his cremated remains will be held.
