Authorities have stressed this case is distinct from the ongoing “Project South” corruption probe, which involves separate allegations of data breaches and other serious crimes. The investigation into Popal’s alleged actions is ongoing, raising concerns about data security within the force.

Finally, Durham Regional Police are searching for a 35-year-old Brampton man, Sahil Thakur, wanted on fraud charges. He allegedly defrauded an investor out of $200,000 by falsely claiming to be establishing a trucking business with a $1-million bank loan and secured contracts.
