Liverpool's newly appointed manager Andoni Iraola has yet to work with Cody Gakpo, and former Reds striker Emile Heskey believes the club should consider selling the forward if a serious offer is made. Gakpo had a promising start at Liverpool, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in his first 21 Premier League appearances after joining from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023.
However, Gakpo's form has been inconsistent, and he only managed to score seven goals in the English top flight last season. Despite signing a new contract extension last summer, which runs through to 2030, there is speculation about his future at the club. Tottenham and Bayern Munich have been linked with the Netherlands international, and Heskey thinks Liverpool should consider cashing in on him if a decent offer is made.
Heskey's comments come after Gakpo had a decent World Cup, scoring three goals for the Netherlands. However, the former England international is not convinced by Gakpo's recent form at club level, describing it as "patchy at best." Heskey believes that if a serious offer is made, Liverpool should consider selling Gakpo to fund their own vision under the new manager.
The valuation of Gakpo is likely to be high, with reports suggesting that it would take an offer in excess of £60million for Liverpool to consider selling him. If the Reds do decide to sell, they would make a significant profit on the winger, who they signed for £35m from PSV Eindhoven. Iraola has yet to work with Gakpo, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for the Dutchman at Anfield.
