The Philippine authorities have made a significant breakthrough in their fight against terrorism, with the arrest of an alleged bomb maker linked to the Dawlah Islamiya militant group.
The suspect, identified as Muslimin Sangila Amilil, is wanted for multiple offenses, including a March ambush that killed five policemen in Shariff Aguak. Amilil is believed to have received training from a slain Malaysian militant in assembling improvised explosive devices.
Security forces arrested Amilil in Mamasapano after conducting a search operation in the area. His wife was also separately arrested following the recovery of firearms and improvised bombs from their house.
Amilil is currently being detained pending prosecution, as the authorities continue to investigate his alleged involvement with the Dawlah Islamiya militant group.
