UMVA has learned that a dramatic and disturbing scene unfolded at the home of Lee Ramsden, leaving him shaken and distressed.
Lee recounted the harrowing experience, saying that police officers arrived at his doorstep and initially told him they had the wrong person. However, in a sudden and bewildering turn of events, they then informed him that he was going back home, citing "good news."
The encounter left Lee feeling scared and vulnerable, particularly given his disability. He revealed that he had just made a coffee when the police arrived, and the sudden interruption sent him into a state of distress.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Greater Manchester Police had been responding to a reported violent incident at 6:13 am on June 4. The officers had been provided with what they believed to be the suspect's name, address, and photograph, but this information ultimately proved to be inaccurate.
The police spokesperson explained that, acting on the available information, officers attended Lee's address and arrested him at 6:34 am. However, it quickly became clear that Lee was not the person they were seeking, and he was promptly de-arrested and returned home at 7:09 am.
The correct suspect was eventually identified, arrested, and taken into custody. The police have been in contact with Lee since the incident to address his concerns and assure him that they followed due process for arresting someone with disabilities.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Lee's ordeal has highlighted the complexities and challenges of policing, particularly when it comes to handling sensitive and high-pressure situations.
