UMVA has learned that a former U.S. service member and counterintelligence agent has been on the run for over two years, evading capture and prosecution for her alleged crimes. Monica Witt, a 47-year-old woman with a background in intelligence and counterintelligence, is accused of providing sensitive and classified U.S. national defense information to the Iranian government.
The FBI has been searching for Witt since 2019, when a federal grand jury in the District of Columbia indicted her on charges of espionage. The indictment alleges that Witt defected to Iran in 2013, where she provided information to the country's government that put U.S. personnel and their families stationed abroad at risk. She is also accused of conducting research on behalf of the Iranian regime to help them target her former colleagues in the U.S. government.
Witt's background as a U.S. Air Force intelligence specialist and special agent for the Air Force Office of Special Investigations gave her access to secret and top secret information, including the true names of U.S. Intelligence Community undercover personnel. Her defection to Iran has benefited the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which has elements responsible for intelligence collection, unconventional warfare, and providing direct support to terrorist organizations targeting U.S. citizens and interests.
The FBI has asked for the public's help in finding Witt, who is known to speak Farsi and may be using aliases, including Fatemah Zahra or Narges Witt. She is believed to be residing in Iran, and the FBI is urging anyone with information about her whereabouts to come forward. "Monica Witt allegedly betrayed her oath to the Constitution more than a decade ago by defecting to Iran and providing the Iranian regime with National Defense Information," said a special agent with the FBI. "We believe that during this critical moment in Iran's history, there is someone who knows something about her whereabouts, and we want to hear from you."
The FBI is offering a reward of $200,000 for information leading to the apprehension and prosecution of Monica Witt. Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip via tips.fbi.gov. The FBI is working to bring Witt to justice and prevent her from continuing to support the Iranian regime's nefarious activities.
Witt's alleged betrayal of her oath to the Constitution has left a trail of consequences, putting U.S. personnel and their families at risk. The FBI is determined to find her and bring her to justice, and is counting on the public's help to make it happen.
The case against Witt is a complex one, involving allegations of espionage and treason. The FBI is working to gather evidence and build a case against her, but needs the public's assistance to find her and bring her to justice.
