Vivant Water Launches Desalinated Water Service for Cebu Utility

Vivant Water has begun delivering desalinated water from its new plant in Cordova, Cebu to the Metropolitan Cebu Water District, marking the first phase of the project. The initial shipment signals the start of a long‑term supply strategy for the region.

The first delivery consists of 5,000 cubic meters of water, enough to serve roughly 7,000 households. Distribution networks are already integrating the new supply to meet immediate demand.

The plant, operated by Isla Mactan Cordova Corp., a subsidiary of Vivant Water, is part of a 25‑year joint venture agreement to provide up to 20,000 cubic meters daily to Metro Cebu. This arrangement secures a substantial, renewable water source for the metropolitan area.

When fully operational, the facility is expected to deliver enough water for nearly 30,000 households, reducing reliance on groundwater and surface sources. The shift to desalinated water aims to alleviate pressure on local aquifers.

Company President Jess Anthony Garcia emphasized that bringing climate‑resilient sources online will ease stress on aquifers and protect the region’s natural resources. “The sooner we bring climate‑resilient sources online, the sooner we can help reduce stress on our aquifers,” he said.

Vivant Water, officially Vivant Infracore Holdings, oversees the water investments of the Cebu‑based conglomerate Vivant Corp. Its role includes managing infrastructure that supports long‑term water security.

The corporation’s chief executive outlined a plan to invest approximately P67 billion in its energy and water businesses through 2030. About P60 billion of that budget is earmarked for expanding energy infrastructure.

The remaining funds will be directed toward expanding Vivant’s portfolio across the water value chain, reinforcing supply reliability as demand grows. These investments aim to diversify sources and enhance resilience.

The executive expressed confidence that the projected pipeline investments will enable the company to continue delivering essential services that improve everyday living. The focus remains on sustaining growth while safeguarding critical resources.
