Auto China 2026 wasn’t just an auto show; it was a declaration. A resounding statement of intent from Chinese automakers, now dominating not only production numbers but also the very future of mobility. The sheer scale of the event, sprawling across a record-breaking 380,000 square meters, hinted at the seismic shift underway in the automotive world.

Beijing-based BAIC, a state-owned giant, stood as a prime example of this ascendance. Beyond the BAIC nameplate, the company encompasses a diverse portfolio of brands – Arcfox, Beijing, Foton, and even joint ventures with industry titans like Benz and Hyundai. Their recent sales figures – 1.752 million units in 2025, with proprietary brands accounting for over a million – speak volumes about their growing influence.

At the heart of BAIC’s display was the B81, the successor to the B80. This isn’t simply an evolution; it’s a bold reimagining, drawing clear inspiration from the iconic G-Wagen. BAIC boldly labels it a “tactical box car,” signaling a commitment to rugged capability and off-road prowess, likely powered by an advanced, extended-range electrified powertrain.

But BAIC isn’t solely focused on brute strength. The B70 presents a dramatically different face – one of refined luxury and sophisticated design. Resembling a Range Rover in its imposing stature and elegant lines, the B70 embodies BAIC’s ambition to move beyond “hardcore mechanical performance” towards a more holistic, intelligent outdoor experience.

The BAIC Mars pickup truck offered a more familiar, yet equally compelling, proposition. Mechanically identical to the Foton Tunland, also under the BAIC umbrella, it’s a workhorse reimagined with modern sensibilities. Initial plans suggest this model will be among the first new BAIC vehicles to arrive in the Philippines, promising a fresh option for a market hungry for versatile utility.

Celebrity brothers Andre and Kobe Paras, part of the BAIC Philippines delegation, offered enthusiastic endorsements. Andre praised his B40, highlighting its well-rounded features, while Kobe expressed keen interest in the Mars, captivated by its spacious interior and striking design. “For people our height, we love legroom,” Kobe remarked, envisioning beach trips and daily commutes in the stylish pickup.

Beyond the showcased vehicles, BAIC’s booth offered a deep dive into the technology powering their innovations and a comprehensive look at the brand’s history. The company is also exploring the potential of bringing the Arcfox brand – specializing in fully electric and extended-range electric vehicles – to the Philippines, further expanding their commitment to a sustainable future.

The presence of BAIC, alongside other Chinese marques, at Auto China 2026 wasn’t just about displaying cars. It was about showcasing a complete ecosystem – from battery technology and rare earth material control to innovative design and manufacturing prowess. It’s a clear signal: the future of the automotive industry is being forged in China.
