A restaurant owner and his six-year-old son were the targets of a possible assassination attempt, according to reports

At least three people, including a child, were injured in a car explosion in Moscow, local officials have said, amid reports that it may have been an assassination attempt on a restaurant owner.

According to the Investigative Committee, the blast occurred in the southwestern part of the Russian capital on Tuesday morning, adding that law enforcement was working at the scene and that all those injured had been taken to hospital.

TASS reported, citing a law enforcement source, that among the injured parties was Viktor Mishachev, the CEO of restaurant company Shaker Group, and his six-year-old son. The possible motives include his business activities, or personal animosity, the agency said.

According to the Baza Telegram channel, the blast also injured the businessman’s neighbor, who was getting into a nearby car.

Telegram channel Shot reported that Mishachev had his forearm ripped off by the blast, and was also hit in the leg, while the child received a superficial injury to his head. It said the explosive device had been placed in the open on the hood of his SUV, and was covered with a baby diaper. When Mishachev tried to remove the item, it detonated, the report said.

According to TASS, the explosive device was low-yield and had the power of no more than 100 grams of TNT.

Meanwhile, Shot also noted that, seconds after the blast, the entrepreneur snatched his child and rushed back to his apartment despite bleeding heavily, and only later called the ambulance.

The report is consistent with a video released by the Investigative Committee showing the parking lot after the incident, with two blurry figures fleeing toward the building’s entrance. Images of the scene released by authorities showed damage to the businessman’s SUV, as well as shattered windows on another vehicle parked a few feet away.
