The agency alleges that policies prioritizing protection over deportation are directly responsible for releasing dangerous criminals back into communities.
DHS officials are openly criticizing governors Gavin Newsom of California, JB Pritzker of Illinois, and Maura Healey of Massachusetts, accusing them of enabling a system that allows convicted murderers, child predators, and gang members to roam free. The agency claims these governors are prioritizing political ideology over the safety of their citizens.
Statistics presented by DHS reveal a striking correlation: seven out of ten of the safest cities in America actively cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This data fuels the argument that collaboration with federal immigration authorities is a critical component of effective crime prevention.
The agency highlighted the case of Hector Grijalba-Sernas, a Mexican national arrested for lewd acts with a child under fourteen. Despite an ICE detainer request, he was released, only to be apprehended again by federal authorities. This case exemplifies what DHS describes as a pattern of “dangerous derangement.”

Jose Manuel Fuentes-Vargas, convicted of sexual assault on a victim under thirteen, was released after authorities ignored an ICE detainer. He is now in federal custody, but the initial release raised serious questions about risk assessment and public safety protocols.
The debate has been tragically amplified by the recent murder of Loyola University Chicago student Sheridan Gorman. Jose Medina-Medina, a Venezuelan national who entered the U.S. during the current administration and had a prior shoplifting arrest, has been charged with her murder, sparking widespread outrage and renewed calls for stricter immigration enforcement.
DHS reports that over 33,000 criminal aliens are currently in California’s custody, presenting a significant challenge to public safety. The agency insists that honoring ICE detainers is not merely a matter of policy, but a moral imperative to protect innocent lives.
Angel Navarro Camarillo, a member of the La Familia street gang, was released despite a detainer, only to be later removed from the United States by ICE. Similarly, Carmelo Corado Hurtado, convicted of first-degree murder, was also released and subsequently deported after ICE intervened.
