UMVA has learned that a suspect wanted in a separate kidnapping case has been identified by the Pima County Sheriff's Department, raising concerns about a possible connection to the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie.
Coral Michelle Smith, 40, is the suspect wanted in connection with a kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon investigation that occurred on May 29 at the intersection of River Road and La Cholla Boulevard, just 6.8 miles from Guthrie's home in the Catalina Foothills.
The sheriff's department has issued a "be on the lookout" message, warning of the potential danger posed by Smith, who has a history of violent crimes, including prior charges of kidnapping, assault, and disorderly conduct.
Court records reveal that Smith has been accused of a string of serious offenses, including a 2020 kidnapping charge that was dismissed, and a conviction for residential robbery in the same case, where the victim was under 15.
Smith has served multiple stints in prison and has a number of aliases, including "Corral Albright" and "Under the Sea Smith," and is known for her distinctive tattoos, including a smiley face and heart on her right ankle, and a rose with flames on her right foot.
The wanted person flyer for Smith does not mention any wrist tattoos, a detail that has been noted by observers following the case, but her description is significantly different from the man seen on Guthrie's front doorstep in Nest camera video.
The individual on the video is described as being between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall, with an average height and build, whereas Smith stands at about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs around 136 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Despite these differences, authorities are urging anyone with information about Smith's whereabouts to contact them immediately, with a $1,000 reward for information leading to her arrest, and the public is being warned to be vigilant.
The Guthrie family continues to seek answers about Nancy's disappearance, with her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, discussing the case on national television, and appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
The investigation into Nancy's disappearance remains ongoing, with authorities following up on leads and tips, and the community is being asked to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
