UMVA has learned that EcoSolar Energy Corp. is poised to embark on an ambitious venture, constructing its largest solar farm in Capiz, central Philippines, after obtaining the necessary environmental clearance.
The green light was given by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, which issued an environmental compliance certificate for the 98.2-megawatt-direct current Panitan Solar Power project. This crucial document certifies that the project has met all environmental requirements under the country's environmental impact assessment system.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the project is slated for completion by the end of 2028. Once remaining pre-development activities are wrapped up, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines will upgrade the 138-kilovolt Panitan substation, where the solar facility will connect.
This significant investment by the Yuchengco Group of Companies is expected to inject much-needed power into the Visayas grid, which has been plagued by frequent red and yellow alerts. The development comes as a welcome respite for the region, which has been struggling with power shortages.
EcoSolar, a unit of PetroGreen Energy, had also secured an environmental compliance certificate in November 2025 for a standalone 20-megawatt battery energy storage system in Panitan, Capiz. The storage facility is scheduled for completion by the fourth quarter of 2026.
PetroGreen operates four utility-scale solar projects in Tarlac, Bohol, and Nueva Ecija, with four more projects in development. The company's parent firm, PetroEnergy Resources, saw its shares rise 3.87% to P3.76 each on the Philippine Stock Exchange.
