TEEN EXECUTED: Mall Carnage Shocks City!

A Friday afternoon at Jackson Square mall in Hamilton turned into a scene of unimaginable tragedy. A 16-year-old boy is dead, the victim of a shooting police are calling brazen and targeted.

The incident unfolded shortly after 5 p.m., as the mall bustled with shoppers. Multiple shots rang out inside a cellphone store, shattering the ordinary rhythm of a typical day.

Police initially reported a male transported to hospital with critical injuries. The news quickly darkened as authorities confirmed the young man succumbed to his wounds. Superintendent Martin Schulenberg expressed the department’s profound sorrow, stating their thoughts were with the victim and his family.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation that occurred immediately before the gunfire. This suggests the boy was specifically targeted, transforming a public space into a scene of personal violence.

Witnesses described seeing two suspects fleeing the scene, heading east on James Street. Both are described as white males, approximately 19 to 20 years old. One wore a grey tracksuit, the other a blue one.

Authorities believe both suspects were armed, one potentially with a long gun. A stark warning was issued: do not approach them. Instead, anyone spotting individuals matching the description should immediately call 911.

Despite the chaos and trauma, mall security personnel assisted officers in managing the scene. Their quick response helped to contain the situation amidst widespread fear and concern for public safety.

A significant police presence descended on the area, closing roads between King, James, and MacNab Streets. Forensic investigators are meticulously combing the mall, tracing the suspects’ movements from entry to exit.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. Detective Robert Di Ianni can be reached at (905) 546-3865, or tips can be submitted anonymously to Hamilton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The closure of the area is expected to last several hours as investigators painstakingly gather evidence, seeking to understand the full scope of this devastating event and bring those responsible to justice.
