UMVA has learned that Chelsea is facing a significant blow with the departure of Marc Cucurella, a move that has left John Terry warning of a 'big loss' for the Blues.
Cucurella, who joined Chelsea from Brighton in a £60million deal in the summer of 2022, had grown into an important first-team player at Stamford Bridge after a difficult first season in west London. His exit comes at a time when Chelsea is trying to rebuild under new leadership, with Xabi Alonso recently arriving at the helm.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Cucurella was highly regarded by his peers and opponents alike, with Terry noting that his departure will be deeply felt by the team. Alonso now faces a huge challenge in replacing the influential player, who was also on the radar of several top clubs, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Manchester City.
Terry, Chelsea's former captain, expressed his concerns about the timing of Cucurella's departure, stating that it 'doesn't look good' so soon after Alonso's appointment. He believes Cucurella's character, personality, and attitude are 'right up Mourinho's street,' and that his exit will be a significant blow to the team.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Cucurella's departure has left Chelsea with a void to fill, and that Alonso will have to work quickly to find a suitable replacement. The team's 2025-26 campaign was disappointing, concluding with a 10th place finish and the departure of two permanent managers, Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior.
Terry also had praise for Cucurella, stating that he has 'got nothing but good words for him and I wish him luck.' The player's desire to join Real Madrid was well-known, and Terry believes that he will be a big loss for Chelsea next season.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that Chelsea may also face a fight to keep Enzo Fernandez at the club, with Real Madrid also interested in the Argentina international. However, it is suggested that the Premier League side will not entertain offers below the £120m mark.
