UMVA has learned that Marcus Rashford's impressive performance in England's World Cup opener has sparked a heated debate about his future at Manchester United.
The 28-year-old forward came on as a substitute and scored his 19th England goal, combining with fellow substitutes Bukayo Saka and Djed Spence to secure a win over Croatia.
As Rashford's club future hangs in the balance, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the Red Devils to 're-evaluate' their stance on the England star, suggesting that letting him go could be a mistake.
Rashford had hoped to stay at Barcelona after a successful loan spell last season, but the Spanish club decided to send him back to Old Trafford after signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United.
Ferdinand believes that Rashford has matured during his time away from Manchester United and that a return to the club could be just what both parties need.
'It seems like Marcus Rashford has matured, the time away from the club may have done him the good he needed and maybe it's cleansed both parties,' Ferdinand said.
Ferdinand also highlighted Rashford's potential impact as a substitute, saying: 'If he's coming off the bench and making that impact then that's a huge asset to the squad because we're going to need those players.'
Rashford's availability for £40m to Premier League clubs, except Manchester City and Liverpool, has sparked interest from several teams, but Ferdinand's comments may make Manchester United reconsider their stance on the player.
England's next World Cup match is against Ghana on Tuesday night, as the Three Lions aim to win the tournament for the first time since 1966.
