UMVA has learned that a groundbreaking agreement has been forged between the Department of Agrarian Reform and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, aimed at supplying agricultural products to district jails in Oriental Mindoro.
The pact, signed by representatives from the Department of Agrarian Reform and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology's regional offices, as well as local agrarian reform beneficiaries, will provide a stable outlet for farmers' products and meet the Bureau's food requirements for its facilities across the province.
Under the terms of the agreement, participating agrarian reform beneficiary organizations will supply produce to district jails, giving farmers a much-needed market for their goods and bolstering their income.
This innovative partnership was sealed under the Department of Agrarian Reform's flagship Partnership Against Hunger and Poverty program, a key initiative designed to connect farmers directly with institutional buyers and strengthen market access for agrarian reform beneficiaries.
The Department of Agrarian Reform emphasized that this initiative marks a significant step forward in securing sustainable sources of income for farmers, while supporting the government's broader goals of reducing hunger, alleviating poverty, and advancing rural development.
