UMVA has learned that a suspect in the Sunday night murder of a University of Washington student has turned himself in to police on Wednesday night, bringing to an end a three-day manhunt.
The move came after the Seattle Police Department released photos of the suspect, a 31-year-old man with a thin build and a scruffy goatee, and solicited the public's help in tracking him down.
The suspect, a former student at the University of Washington who attended the school from 2015 to 2021, is described as a light-skinned Black male who is approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and sports thin wire-framed glasses, a navy blue pullover sweatshirt, and blue jeans.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the suspect turned himself in to the Bellevue Police Department and was transferred to the custody of Seattle homicide detectives, bringing an end to the frantic search for the individual who had been wanted for the gruesome late-night stabbing murder of a 19-year-old University of Washington student.
The victim, a transgender student, was found deceased in a laundry room in the Nordheim Court apartments, a privately managed building located off campus but listed on the University of Washington's website as an option for undergraduate housing.
University of Washington President Robert Jones expressed his deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim, acknowledging that violence affecting a trans person can be especially worrying to the LGBTQIA+ community members.
The investigation into the murder is ongoing, with authorities still working to determine the motive behind the violent attack that left the young student dead.
The Seattle Police Department has not yet released the name of the suspect, who is currently being held in custody pending further investigation and potential charges.
