The United States Park Police are on the hunt for a woman who allegedly vandalized the reflecting pool in Washington D.C. by tearing out the blue sealant lining the bottom.
According to surveillance footage, the unidentified female is seen reaching into the pool multiple times, pulling out the sealant, and showing it to two males. The incident is currently under investigation for alleged destruction of government property.
Large portions of the bottom of the pool have been ripped out, and several people have been arrested for the destruction since last week. The US Park Police are asking anyone with information on the alleged vandal to contact them at USPP_TIPline@nps.gov or (202) 379-4877.
The Department of the Interior released the footage in connection with a Destruction of Government Property investigation. "Destroying, injuring, defacing or removing cultural or archeological resources is a federal crime," the Department said in a statement.
The Reflecting Pool, which is crystal clear, is a popular tourist destination and a significant cultural landmark in Washington D.C. The US Park Police are working to identify the individual depicted in the footage and bring them to justice.
