The world of snooker is witnessing a rise in dominance by Chinese players, with the last two world champions hailing from the country. This trend may continue, with several talented young players emerging.
Seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry is a fan of former world champion Zhao Xintong, who had a brilliant season last time round, winning four titles. Hendry also expects big things from current world champion Wu Yize, but fancies the man he dethroned to shine brightest.
The Scot believes that Wu Yize may start off slowly due to the pressure of being the world champion, but thinks that Xintong will have a very big season. Hendry is also tipping 23-year-old Chang Bingyu to win his first professional tournament this season.
Hendry has been impressed by Chang's talent, particularly after losing 4-0 to him at last season's Welsh Open. The youngster finished the game with 100 per cent pot success. That player is 28-year-old Zhou Yuelong, who has been lurking just outside the world's top 16 for years. Despite reaching four ranking finals without winning one, Hendry reckons his time is still to come. The Magician remembers tipping Zhou Yuelong to become a world-beater when he first came on the scene, citing his world-class technique, shot selection, and composure.
Hendry believes that people bloom at different stages of their life, and thinks that Zhou Yuelong still has more to give. The emergence of these talented young players from China is set to make the world of snooker even more exciting.
Another player who Hendry is keeping an eye on is Luca Brecel, who he thinks may make a comeback this season. Hendry is unsure of Brecel's form, but thinks he could be a dark horse in the upcoming season.
