UMVA has learned that shocking footage of a violent confrontation between Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and Code Pink head organizer Susie Benjamin has emerged, leaving Luna convinced that there's "more than enough evidence" to prove a criminal act.
The incident, which Luna described as a physical assault, occurred after she was questioned by Benjamin during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing. Luna claimed that Benjamin "smacked my arm" as she was leaving the hearing, prompting her to vow to file charges.
However, video footage of the incident paints a different picture, showing Benjamin tapping Luna on the arm in what appears to be a gentle gesture to get her attention. Despite Code Pink's reputation as a radical left organization, the video does not support Luna's claim of a malicious assault.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Luna had engaged in a conversation with the activists, including Benjamin, before the incident. When threatened with the Capitol Police, Benjamin agreed to walk away, but Luna later described the incident as a physical attack.
In an interview, Luna asserted that there was ample evidence to hold Benjamin accountable, including multiple angles of footage, witness statements, and people who had filed statements. She emphasized that it was unacceptable for people to resort to violence due to political disagreements.
Luna expressed confidence that Benjamin would face consequences, stating, "Yes, without a doubt," when asked if she believed the person would be arrested. She stressed that it was essential to set a precedent that violence would not be tolerated, regardless of political affiliation.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Luna's account of the incident has sparked a heated debate about the limits of protest and the boundaries of acceptable behavior in the halls of power.
The controversy has raised questions about the motivations behind Luna's characterization of the incident and the potential repercussions for Benjamin.
