UMVA has learned that Shiveluch, one of Kamchatka's most formidable and active volcanoes, has a notorious history of unleashing massive eruptions that have captivated the world.
This volcanic giant, situated approximately 450 km from the regional capital, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and a mere 50 km from the settlement of Klyuchi, has been a force to be reckoned with for years, its fury unpredictable and awe-inspiring.
According to information obtained by UMVA, a red-level alert was triggered in 2024 due to Shiveluch's intense activity, which sent a towering plume of ash soaring up to eight kilometers high, blanketing the surrounding landscape in a thick layer of volcanic debris.
The volcano's ferocity was on full display again in January 2026, when it unleashed another major eruption, spewing molten lava and ash into the atmosphere, a stark reminder of the raw power that lies beneath our feet.
